Be Patient, Change Takes Time
Be Patient, Change Takes Time
By Annie Berryhill
Oh how we want the changes we make to show and how hard it is to wait! Whether we are active in Crossfit and in pursuit some sort of PR (personal record), or a mom who wants to be more patient with her kids, or an anyone earnestly seeking to accomplish a goal, sometimes it feel like it take FOREVER to get there.
I remember at a particularly tough patch in raising my kids, I told someone that I was praying for Patience. She reacted strangely by saying " Oh, you don't want to pray for patience because patience only comes through trials!" Yikes…and trials it was for me!
Here are a few strategies that for you to hold onto when your patience for personal progress is tested.
1. One step at a time AKA- Rome wasn't built in a day/ You can only eat a pizza a bite at a time/The journey of a million miles begins with a single step.
Even though your goal may seem so impossibly far away,
just by taking small actions over time, you move closer
2. Be kind to yourself
Often our harshest critics are our own thoughts. Sometimes we say things to ourselves that we would PUNCH someone else for saying to us.
Knock it off!
3. Tell someone else what you want and why. Give THEM reports of your progress.
We all are guilty of living with our own heads stuffed up our own backsides sometimes and not seeing things as they truly are. Get a fresh perspective by asking a trusted friend to tell you like it really is. It may be different than what you think…and better!
Patience with change is one of the hardest things to endure. Just when you have been patient enough to see one thing through to completion, another challenge comes along. Maybe you are challenged by multiple things as once…go back through #1, #2, #3.
Change will happen whether it is in your fitness training, your marriage, parenting, finances or anything really.
Just practice patience with a plan and you will get there!

Great advice Anne, focus on what you DO want and soon it will arrive! Very positive and uplifting article! Thank you.
Love the picture you choose, but also the great reminder not to beat ourself up if we are not making our goals fast enough. One step at a time gets us to the finish line!
What a great post Anne! I love how you are developing this blog in real everyday talk! Thanks 😉
Great article Anne. Patience does pay and I happen to have been that way for years. I would really love it now but maybe that is just human nature. Look how patient the dog looks. Great #1, 2, 3 tips.
thanks for the inspiration Annie – sometimes we do need to look bzck to give ourselves a reminder of how much progress we are making. step by step we'll make thix journey. Patience is a wonderful fruit!
Annie,
This is just what I needed to read today. The gentle reminder to take one step at a time is what I've been missing. Like a thoroughbred at the gate I forge forward full speed and crash and burn. Then I get frustrated that my goals elude me. This is perfect. Now, I'm back at the gate and will take one step today towards that goal. I'll be back and share with you my accomplishments, each step of the way:)

Carla!
I know you know that oftentimes we write about the exact thing that we ourselves are going through. I feel your pain! We have to remember what you said, “Take One Step at a Time”. I am right there with ya! I can’t wait to hear about how you overcome!
Patience and believing go hand in hand; it makes us strong and sure that we will get there.
Patience is a virtue we can practice in so many ways. Thanks for the fine advice, Anne.
Having Patience keeps us from getting discouraged during the inevitable slow moments or days – or weeks… Thanks for the timely reminder, Annie!
Love the point–Be kind to yourself. Thanks for the encouragement!
That is true – we need patience to see results – before we even consider -giving up! Great point Anne! 🙂
